Dorothy Barbara

Dorothy has been practicing various styles of yoga since 1990 and has been teaching for the past 10 years. She is currently enrolled in the Advanced Teacher Training Program with Master Yoga. She is certified at the 500 hour level with Master Yoga and is a Certified Yoga Therapist, a healing modality that enhances the benefits of Yoga. She studied at Integral Yoga Institute in Virginia and is certified at the 200 hour level. She is registered with Yoga Alliance. Dorothy practiced Zen Meditation for over 10 years and was a resident of Providence Zen Center for three years.

My first introduction with Svaroopa® Yoga was at Kripalu Institute for wellness. I had enrolled in an Anatomy workshop given by Rama Berch. She would end each night with a yoga class. This was the first time I had experienced releasing tensions in the body without efforting. Prior to this I had injured my neck. After this weekend training, my neck pain was gone. This made me very inquisitive about Svaroopa® Yoga which eventually led from one course to another and into the teacher training program. I am grateful to Svaroopa® Yoga for helping me to experience body awareness, giving me the tools to release core tensions and open the body allowing it to heal before it becomes a serious health issue.

“I became interested in Yoga around the same time I started my Zen meditation training. Yoga complimented the meditation training, by helping me to connect to my body & mind in ways that I had never experienced before. I became aware of the layers of tension held in the body that makes it tight, fatigued, and diseased. The tools of yoga & meditation are gifts that help me to connect to the inner source of healing, freeing me from physical and emotional tensions, created sometimes by the mind alone. ”
